Decoding Canine Communication

Dogs communicate primarily through body language. Understanding these signals helps you better care for your pet and prevent misunderstandings.

Happy and Relaxed

A happy dog typically has relaxed ears, a wagging tail, and a soft, open mouth. Their body is loose and they may approach you with a gentle, bouncy gait.

Anxious or Nervous

Signs of anxiety include yawning, lip licking, avoiding eye contact, and a tucked tail. The dog may also show whale eye (whites of eyes visible) or pant excessively.

Aggressive or Threatened

Aggressive body language includes raised hackles, bared teeth, stiff body posture, and a raised tail. The dog may also growl or bark aggressively.

Playful

Playful dogs often have a "play bow" position, wagging tail, and excited movements. They may bark playfully and show relaxed facial expressions.
